Transforming this 1970s Northland farm cottage into a captivating Balinese-inspired home was a significant undertaking. With a vision to create something exceptional, our construction team embarked on a full renovation and extension, breathing new life into the existing structure. While preserving some of the original bones, the majority of the cottage was revitalised, resulting in a breathtaking space that meets the client’s desire to replicate the Balinese style of living in Matapouri.

The main feature of this house is the captivating outdoor room designed to blend the interior and exterior spaces. Louvred screens offer a 'transparent' feel, filtering sunlight while allowing a refreshing breeze. Extensive modifications were made to withstand coastal climates, using hardwood, cedar, and local timbers. Subtropical landscaping with 'floating' decks connects the new and old.
